The 17th Annual Valentine’s Health Seminar

March 23, 2024 @ 10:30 am - 11:00 am

The Sheila Kar Foundation Logo

About 64 million surgical procedures are performed yearly in the US. This has been possible because of modern anesthesia, as opposed to “chug down whisky and grit your teeth” 187 years ago. Millions receive painless treatments and enjoy longer and healthier lives.

However, questions are many. Is it true, that smokers, chronic usage of marijuana (inhaler or ingested) or overweight patients require higher doses of anesthesia? Is it safe in growing children and pregnant women? Which patients or procedures are high-risk? Can general anesthesia cause memory loss, especially after the age of 70, or after recurrent episodes of anesthesia? Can breathing problems, allergic reactions and post anesthesia confusion be predicted? What is local, regional and general anesthesia? We are put to sleep, how is it different from normal sleep, how do we wake up? Do genes play a role? Can long-acting anesthetics through delivery systems be a safer alternate to habit-forming opioids for post-op pain? Etc etc

The excellent panelists will discuss all of this and more. Knowledge is Power. Please attend with friends, colleagues, family and children.
